Review of Weeds
This is one of those TV series that didn't catch my eye when it launched other than to make me think it'd be a one joke comedy.
Then on my summer holidays I caught the first episode of Season 2 and loved every second of it. You of course know what happened next; bittorrent of all of Season 1 and 2.
We've been watching 2 episodes at a time given that it unusually is only 30 minutes long. Comedy Dramas like this from the US are nearly always an hour.
The writing is just brilliant and the acting does it justice. Apart from the truly wonderful Mary Louise Parker in the lead role as the weed dealing soccer mom, Elizabeth Perkins is hysterical, the accountant makes me laugh every time he speaks and her brother in law is fabulously naughty. His words of wisdom on whacking off to his nephew was one of the funniest scenes ever on TV.
I find the "right-on" black characters a bit too cool but other than that it is one of the finest shows to come out of the US in the past three years.
